About this Event

Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!

Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.

Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.

You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.

GIG Louisiana - Baton Rouge Guest instructors: Aimee Moran & Stephanie Cunningham

Stephanie Cunningham, is the first female black belt under Derrick Breaux at Blacklist Mixed Martial Arts in Houma, Louisiana. She is also proud to be the first female black belt in Terrebonne Parish.
She is the mother of a very active 14-year-old son who plays three different sports and has trained in martial arts since he was five years old. Professionally, she works as a finance manager for a global oil and gas company, a career that often requires long hours and weekend work.
No matter how busy life becomes, she always make time to train in combat sports. Martial arts has become more than a hobby — it is her passion. One of the things she values most is being able to teach and empower other women around her. She strives to lift others up and be a mentor, leader, and positive role model both on and off the mat.
The words that keep her going are:
“I can, I will — just watch me.“

Aimee Moran is a brown belt under Shawn Gayton and co-owner/manager of Delta Training Center in Thibodaux. For her, competition is not a priority at the moment. Her focus is to expand her knowledge of jiu jitsu through teaching, gaining a deeper understanding an anatomy-based grappling. She teaches co-ed gi class weekly. Since February 2024, she has hosted monthly women’s open mats to support the South Louisiana women’s jiu jitsu community and provide opportunity for rolling outside of competition.
