Some Info about the Lineup
Karl Terry & the Cruisers
Karl Terry & The Cruisers are pioneers of the 1960s Merseybeat movement. Fronted by Liverpool-born singer Terrance John Connor (stage name Karl Terry), the band originated as a skiffle group called The Gamblers in the mid-1950s before officially becoming Karl Terry and The Cruisers around 1957.
Cavern & Hamburg Pioneers: They were regulars on the iconic Cavern Club stage in Liverpool and played alongside legendary acts during the peak of the Merseybeat era, including stint performances in Hamburg's Reeperbahn clubs. Cavern DJ Bob Wooler famously nicknamed Karl "The Sheik of Shake" due to his energetic live performances.
The "Beatmakers" Supergroup: On October 19, 1961, Karl Terry fronted a legendary one-off supergroup at Litherland Town Hall named "The Beatmakers," which combined members of The Beatles (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Best) and Gerry and the Pacemakers (Gerry Marsden, Les Chadwick, Les Maguire).
Enduring Legacy: Voted among the top Merseybeat groups in local polls in the early 1960s, Karl Terry has remained an active rock 'n' roll frontman for decades, continuing to perform original tracks and classic sixties hits across the UK.
Shooter
Keith Hubbard, Mike Rimmer & Dave Aindow.
Shooter is a popular Northwest 1950s and 60s revival band based in the Merseyside/Southport area, created and fronted by lead guitarist and vocalist Keith Hubbard.
Formation: Keith Hubbard formed Shooter in 1983 to deliver an authentic, high-energy reproduction of classic 50s rock 'n' roll and 60s Merseybeat.
Keith Hubbard's Musical Roots: Before establishing Shooter, Keith performed with early Merseyside groups like The Rebels, played Liverpool's famous Cavern Club with his group Caliban (including performing on the original Cavern Club's final night), toured in the UK stage production of the musical HAIR, and played with 70s hitmakers Chicory Tip.
Signature Sound: Centered around Keith's signature Fender Stratocaster playing style and harmony vocals, the band performs hits by artists like The Beatles, The Shadows, Roy Orbison, and Buddy Holly across theaters, festivals, corporate functions, and charity shows.
No Trouble
(The Band) Alan Menzies, Derek Boak, Tony Coates & Dan Mercer.
No Trouble is a Northwest-based 1950s and 60s revival band featuring veterans of the local Merseyside music scene.
Band Lineup: Alongside drummer Alan Menzies (who also contributes vocals), the four-piece lineup consists of Tony Coates (lead guitar & vocals), Derek Boak (rhythm guitar & vocals), and Dan Mercer (bass guitar & vocals).
Alan Menzies' Musical Background: Born in Liverpool in 1947, drummer Alan Menzies has a deep history in the regional beat scene. During the 1960s, he was the drummer for the Southport beat group Rhythm & Blues Inc. Later in his career, he performed in the group Jasmin-T and joined the popular Beatles tribute project The Bootles.
Performance Style: Like their peers, No Trouble focuses on live, authentic reproductions of classic rock 'n' roll, 60s Merseybeat, and pop standards across venues, clubs, and charity events.
Simon Smithies (Compere)
Simon Smithies is a Southport-born actor, presenter, and entertainer with a long history in regional British television and live event hosting.Television & Film: As a screen actor, he has appeared in guest and supporting roles across major UK television series, including Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, The Bay, Scott & Bailey, Tin Star, Shameless, and Appropriate Adult.Live Presenting & Stage: Based in the Northwest, Smithies is well known as a live compère, stage host, and theater performer. He regularly hosts regional festivals and shows, including serving as the official voice/host for the British Musical Fireworks Championship and the Southport Food & Drink Festival.Local Community & Events: Beyond screen acting, he frequently works as a master of ceremonies and presenter for live entertainment shows, charity galas, and stage productions across the UK and Europe.
Chris Strefford Mighty Radio(Host)
Chris Strefford is a local radio presenter and live event compère best known for his work with Mighty Radio (107.9 FM), the local station broadcasting across Southport and the surrounding Sefton coast.
Radio Work: On Mighty Radio, Chris presents evening specialty programming, including hosting the Eclectic Express, where he plays a wide-ranging selection of hits, classic tracks, and local chart music.
Live Events & Hosting: Beyond broadcasting, Chris frequently works as a live compère and stage host for community events, charity galas, and live concerts in the Northwest. He regularly collaborates with local personalities—such as hosting alongside actor Simon Smithies for charity music showcases and community fundraisers in the Southport area.
