Southport Sessions — Americana Sessions
About this Event
A relaxed but high-quality live music session exploring country, bluegrass, old-time, western swing and Americana traditions in the historic Wayfarers Arcade.
SOUTHPORT SESSIONS
An evening of live roots music at The Engine Room — Southport’s Civic House for culture, music and making, based in the historic Wayfarers Arcade.
These sessions draw on the broad traditions of American roots music: honky tonk, classic country, bluegrass, old-time, folk blues, western swing and acoustic Americana. Some evenings lean more Nashville, others more Appalachian front room or desert roadside dancehall.
This is not a tribute night or a formal concert. It is a participatory session environment centred on live musicianship, atmosphere and shared enjoyment of the music.
Expect:
- acoustic and lightly amplified performance
- rotating musicians and guests
- traditional songs, standards and improvisation
- a welcoming room for listeners and players alike
- café/bar service throughout the evening
Players are welcome to join where appropriate. Strong listeners are equally valued.
The Engine Room’s Southport Sessions programme aims to rebuild traditions of live social music-making within a contemporary civic setting — somewhere between a listening room, a folk club, a house concert and an old roadside bar.
THE VENUE
The Engine Room is based within Wayfarers Arcade, a restored Victorian arcade in the centre of Southport.
Alongside live music, the space hosts workshops, conversations, seasonal festivals and community events exploring culture, heritage and civic life
