Here is a story of Margaret.
Twenty-five years ago I was dying of the lung disease Cystic Fibrosis. I was on oxygen full time, couldn’t work at my dream job of teaching and lived a very sedidary life. I was surviving, but not truly living. It was apparent I needed a double lung transplant. I was placed on the solid organ transplant list in April 1999 and on December 1st I received the greatest gift of all time, The Gift of Life: a double lung transplant. Because of the selfless act of an anonymous donor and their family, I reclaimed my life. Post Transplant I became involved with the Canadian Transplant Association whose mandate is to support healthy, active living post transplant. I have attended 7 World Transplant Games and 7 Canadian Games which are similar to the Olympics only the athletes are all transplant recipients.I competed in many different sports and won several medals. My donor saved my life, the Canadian Transplant Association gave me purpose after my transplant to help organ donor recipients live to their full potential, to promote organ and tissue donation and ensure everyone registers their wishes to be an organ donor. In British Columbia Register your wishes at http://www.transplant.bc.ca
Come join us Sunday, December 1st to celebrate the 25th anniversary of my double lung transplant and support the Canadian Transplant Association.
