Who do we have playing?
7pm – Seamus McKenna
Solo artist Séamus McKenna has over a decades experience in writing, recording and performing. Mixing influences from his Irish Roots, Acoustic folk and Americana Séamus has an unique yet familiar sound. Racking up an average of 150+ Gigs a year, Seamus is no stranger to a crowd. In 2024 Seamus moved from the North of England to Cornwall in search of inspiration. His time in the ancient county has provided him with a wealth of local musicians to collaborate with. He is currently curating a series of events called “Get Folk’d!” Promoting local artists and helping support the grassroots music scene. He is also working on a number of collaborative songs with other artists in the area.

In 2024 artist Seamus McKenna set up his own promotions company – “Get Folk’d!” in response to the decrease in opportunities for local grassroots artists to perform ticketed events – “There are too many incredible musicians out there who don’t have enough opportunities to play proper shows, instead they find themselves stuck in the corner of a pub, mostly ignored, whilst the football plays in the background”. Get Folk’d was set up to counter this and provide artists the stage and audience they deserve. So far they have been a huge success collaborating with renowned grassroots venues such as The Cornish Bank, The Fish Factory, Shoals Brewery, St Germans Priory and many more. Keep your eyes peeled for the next Get Folk’d Event!
Get Folk’d! Values its local scene immensely; Music, art and culture should always be built from the ground up wherever possible. Music venues in the UK are facing a crisis as it the grassroots music scene as a whole. Get Folk’d! Is running this event specifically to help raise funds for the Acorn theatre who work tirelessly to ensure that Penzance has a stage for musicians and creatives to perform on – it is a key venue in the west of Cornwall.
This is a Pay What You Can Event with ticket prices ranging from £8 to £16.
