Madeline Montalban and the Order of The Morning Star, a talk by Julia Phillips.
Madeline Montalban (1910-1982), known as ‘the most powerful magician in London’ during her life, was described by Ronald Hutton as ‘…one of England’s most prominent occultists.’She was a professional journalist and in 1956, she launched The Order of the Morning Star as both a correspondence course and magical order. It is a testament to her skill as a teacher that both continue to operate in the 21st century.Firmly situated within the Western Esoteric tradition of magic, Madeline based her lessons around the seven planetary bodies known to the ancients and the angelic forces associated with them. She taught that angels were associated with specific days, hours, planets, minerals, plants, animals, birds, and so on and that they could be invoked through the use of talismans engraved under the appropriate astrological aspect.
Bio: Julia Phillips is Madeline Montalban’s authorised biographer, an Hon Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol, and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
