Gentlemen's Saunter - A Heritage Walk Tour through the Cape Town CBD!
Schedule

UTC+02:00Location
Slave Lodge, Cape Town | Cape Town, WC
Thus we'll set off from here on our Summer circuit to definitively prove the Mother City an untapped lode of tall tales, tidbits, easter-eggs, hotspots, seen-sights and magic messes, and you'll get to see the pick of the bunch in nearly every historic neighbourhood over the next few months.
We'll go about it this Saturday (the 9th) from 14h00 to 16h15 by tracing the boundaries of the bucolic Dutch OneStop Garage it once was, wandering down from the edge of the Company's Garden (by the Jan Smuts statue to be exact) to the imaginary line of the beach on Strand Street, turning tail to surmount the klippie steps of the Koopmans-de-Wet Huis then joining 400 years' worth of souvenir sales in Greenmarket Square before lurching on through tough thickets of prescience and nostalgia all the way up St George's Mall.
As a taster, would you believe me if I told you the entire global diamond industry used to be run from one room overlooking The Crypt? That you can still see the first spire of the first church in South Africa from the cathedral, but only if you stand at the right angle? That the cheapest decent coffee in town can be found next to Muller's Optometrists on Longmarket?
Cape Town has a claim to being the first true melting-pot of the modern world (it's even one year older than New York!), and we're so excited to get the chance to cast it in an utterly new light for you.
RSVP NOW (though we will of course return to the same tour routes regularly over the next few seasons).
See you SOON x
Need we say more?
Spread the word and the love, fam 😉
P.S. If you've read this far I'm guessing you'll want even more of the specs, so here goes:
- We'll be starting by the Jan Smuts statue on the corner of Wale Street and Adderley then finishing by the Taj Hotel just across the road just over two hours later, so happily park on Queen Victoria Street or (lord forbid) take the MyCiTi bus the whole day.
- We used to be donation-based but to secure our future we're now doing a pre-booking system whereby you can guarantee your tickets beforehand at R120pp, or you can join the tour on the day for R150pp in cash or EFT et al.
WhatsApp us on 076 033 8164 or Message us via the buttons on our home page to secure your place.
- This is a consistently well-reviewed heritage-focused walking tour; which is to say that all you'll need to enjoy yourself is curiosity about Cape Town's past (and History in general) and enough stamina to walk just less than 3km in one afternoon (with stops and snacks).
- If you're rejoining us, please please please please please please consider dropping us a short (or extensive) review on our Facebook Reviews or Google Reviews section as it will help spread our gospel of curiosity and playful appreciation across the internet and across the spectrum of all potential visitors to the Cape. It helps us more than you can believe!
- We've also introduced an optional R10 donation on your ticket which will go directly to the NGO Streetscapes as part of our mission to spread love, enthusiasm, mutual support and respect for all of Cape Town's people and histories. Just think how many people we could help and the difference we could make with a few hundred tours!
- Feel absolutely free to spread the word, invite friends who've been looking for this kind of experience and badger us with every imaginable heritage query. We live for it!
Can't wait to meet ya, really! 🙂
