The genocidal war on Gaza is erasing our city’s history, culture, and collective memory. Cultural centers, archives, and institutions are being wiped out, along with the artists and intellectuals who carry our stories. This is not just destruction—it is systematic erasure.
For Palestinian filmmakers, this moment demands defiance through storytelling. At Gaza Film Unit, we recognize that in a world where truth is increasingly obscured, archiving becomes an act of survival, and resistance. It is a race against time, a duty to preserve what remains—for ourselves and for future generations.
The space for Palestinian artists is shrinking, but silence is not an option. We must reclaim our voice and refuse to be confined by narratives imposed upon us.
This special screening is a tribute to Gaza—our stolen city. Through three short films, presented at the 18th Glasgow Short Film Festival, we embark on a journey through Gaza’s past and present, reflecting on what has been lost and what must still be fought for.

«Home Movies Gaza» - Short documentary
(Basma Alsharif, 2013, 24m)
An introduction to Gaza Strip as a microcosm for the failure of civilization. In an attempt to describe the everyday of a place that struggles for the most basic of human rights, this video claims a perspective from within the domestic spaces of a territory that is complicated, derelict, and altogether impossible to separate from its political identity.

«Scenes of the Occupation from Gaza» - Short documentary
(Mustafa Abu Ali, 1973, 13m)
A rare film by the legendary filmmaker Mustafa Abu Ali, one of the founders of the Palestine Film Unit, the first filmic arm of the Palestinian revolution. Shot by a French news team, the footage was edited by Mustafa in Lebanon to produce one of the earliest films on the occupied territory in Gaza. Scenes of the Occupation from Gaza employs experimental editing tech-niques to produce a cinematically and politically subversive film. The film won the prize as best film at the Damascus Film Festival in 1973 and was screened at multiple festivals. It was the only film produced by the Palestine Cinema Group, which in 1974.

«Paradiso, XXXI, 108» - Short, Experimental

“Nothing can be heard anymore; the roar of our plane absorbs every other sound. We are heading straight to the world’s biggest display of soundproof fireworks, and soon we will drop our bombs”. Using archival footage interweaved with an almost haunting soundscape, Kamal Aljafari perfectly encapsulates the folly of war in this disarmingly captivating short documentary.

مع حرب الابادة التي تعرضت لھا مدینة غزة، أصبح لدى الفنان الفلسطیني تح ٍد كبیر. إن إرثنا الاجتماعي والحضاري وتاریخ مدینتنا الجمیلة غزة، ُیمحى من الوجود وبطریقة ممنھجة ومدروسة. عبر نسف المراكز الثقافیة، المؤسسات التعلیمیة، والمواقع الأثریة. محو تاریخنا المصور والمكتوب، و سج ّلاتنا المدنیة. اغتیال المثقفین وقتل
الفنانین، قت ًلا بطی ًئا، عبر حرمانھم من العلاج.
رغم قساوة ھذا المشھد على الك ّتاب والفنانین وصناع الأفلام، خصو ًصا الذین عرفوا غزة قبل دمارھا، إلا أنھ یدفعھم جمی ًعا نحو طریق واحد، وھو انتزاع حقھم في سرد قصتھم. وعلى العالم أن یسمعھم.
ُندرك في وحدة أفلام غ ّزة أننا نعیش في عالم ذو استقطابیة عالیة، یصعب معھا معرفة الحقیقة رغم أنھا واضحة وضوح الشمس. وفي أوقات الحروب، تبرز الأھمیة الكبیرة لعملیة التوثیق والأرشفة. ھذه عملیة تحتاج الكثیر من
الالتزام. ُتحركھا الرغبة الملحة بمصارعة الوقت، والحاجة لحفظ ما ُیمكن حفظھ، كواجب نقوم بھ من أجل أنفسنا والأجیال القادمة.
إن المسؤولیة التي تقع على المثقفین الفلسطینیین عامة، والغزیین خاصة، تخطت في خطورتھا أي وقت مضى. صار علینا الآن، أو ًلا، أن نرفع مستوى خطابنا عندما نحاول إیصال سردیتنا، وثان ًیا، أن نساعد الآخرین على التحدث معنا لا التحدث بالنیابة عننا.
لم تعد المساحة المسموح للفنان الفلسطیني العمل فیھا مقبولة، بل صارت ضیقة للغایة، وأن ما یحدث في غزة یستدعي مننا جمی ًعا المزید من الشجاعة، في رفض العمل داخل مساحات محددة سل ًفا. فقد خسرنا بالفعل كل شيء.
في ھذا البرنامج سنجد أفلا ًما في ُحب غزة، المدینة التي لم یترك لنا الاحتلال الفرصة للحدیث عنھا بشكل كاف، فمسحھا عن الوجود. ومسح معھا التاریخ الخاص والمشترك لناسھا. نساھم في ھذا البرنامج بفتح نقاش حقیقي وجاد حول عملیة الأرشفة بعد واحدة من أكثر الحروب دمویة في التاریخ الحدیث.
یضم البرنامج أربعة أفلام قصیرة. ُتعرض في مھرجان الفیلم القصیر في غلاسكو بنسختھ الثامنة عشر. ُصنعت في فترات مختلفة من تاریخ السینما الفلسطینیة. تأخذنا، إذا شوھدت بالترتیب، في رحلة قصیرة داخل غزة وخارجھا. یساعد تنوعھا في خلق نقاش أوسع حول السؤال الفلسطیني الیوم.
