A professional forager based in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Peter has spent decades documenting wild foods and now works as an educator and consultant for some of the country’s top restaurants.
In this engaging session Peter shares insights from over a decade of exploration, research and experience in the field. Through stories, photography and practical knowledge, you’ll discover the diversity of wild foods in Aotearoa, with a focus on foraging opportunities within the Marlborough region, while building knowledge and skills that can be applied in other regions across the country.
Peter will introduce tools and online resources to support your own foraging journey, along with the Wild Foods database he has developed, now featuring over 9,000 species.
He will also touch on the importance of building a strong foraging culture in New Zealand – one that values sustainability, environmental awareness and connection to place. The session concludes with a Q&A and an opportunity to purchase Peter’s books.
