About this Event
French tutor Séréna is once again hosting Games à la Carte, the free event which combines board games and French language learning. Games à la Carte is a fun and informal way for beginners and advanced students to meet native speakers and learn a bit more about the language and culture and practise their skills. Our games will be attended by French natives, who can teach you how to play the games and teach you some useful vocabulary!
What to expect if you’re a beginner
There are no language requirements for Games à la Carte, which means you can come along even if you don’t know any French. You’ll be able to play games like Ticket to Ride and Flamme Rouge, and learn some quick vocabulary and phrases – such as colours and numbers – while you play. Younger players and families can learn food vocabulary while they feed the animals in Hungry or make a Cockroach Soup!
What to expect if you’re a more advanced learner
More advanced learners can practise their skills with social deduction games like Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow or The Resistance. You’ll also be able to play fun party games like Times Up! Or Taboo.
How to register
This is a free drop-in event, so you can turn up any time. However, we would appreciate it if you register for the event. This makes sure we know how many people to expect, and what level of French you can speak. If you’re not sure of your level, check the description next to each level or send Séréna a message.
FAQs
- I can’t speak any French at all. Can I attend?
Bien sûr! This event is designed for all levels, which includes people who can’t speak a word of French. We have some easy-to-learn beginner games, during which you’ll be told a little bit of vocabulary and any useful phrases you can practise as you play.
- I’m French. Can I come along too?
Mais oui! If you’re a native French speaker, we’d love you to come along and meet other French natives or help our learners practise their French. If you have any good games you’d like to share, please bring them along too.
