Come meet the artist and hear her perspective on her
current exhibition “Roots and Wings” Lucy Bailey’s fiber-based mixed media work begins with vintage children’s clothing to establish the central idea of our earliest seeds of identity. Each narrative piece suggests how the arc of a life is formed by chance encounter, family of origin, environment, time, and unfolding events. Her work explores the influences fostering resilience - including nature, nurturing relationships, and a sense of belonging.
Fabric is altered and embellished to evoke the many forces shaping who we are and how we navigate this life. The suggested presence of an individual figure – once literally embodied by the gowns – endures.
