About this Event
Join us for our 2025 Season Kickoff at Bannister Gallery
On Thursday, February 27 Gallery Night hosts our annual pre-season fundraising event from 5-7 pm at Bannister Gallery, one of our partner galleries.
Admission: We ask that those wishing to attend donate a minimum of $65. Setting this as a donation rather than a ticket enables both guests and Gallery Night to save on Eventbrite fees.
Admission includes: Guided Gallery visit, presentation by Ulli Ryder, light refreshments, door prizes from area businesses, Gallery Night goodie bag, a preview of and a sparkling cider toast to the 2025 Gallery Night season. Additional details below.
In the gallery | RaMell Ross: Spell, Time, Practice, American, Body
During the event, curator Victoria Gao will lead guests through the exhibit of three-time Academy Award nominated filmmaker RaMell Ross! He was most recently nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture for his film Nickel Boys. With the body of work showing at Bannister, he explores the meaning and mythology of the American South and of Black identity through large-format color photographs.
RaMell Ross is an Associate Professor of Visual Art at Brown University and received his MFA at the Rhode Island School of Design.
Mahler B. Ryder and Edward M. Bannister: Bound by Art and Activism presented by Ulli Ryder!
We’re pleased to welcome Ulli K. Ryder, Ph.D., daughter of Mahler B. Ryder, to lead this talk in honor of her father and his connection to Bannister, as well as his broader influence on Providence’s arts community and beyond.
Ryder created the copper medalions at the resting place of E.M. Bannister (which were stolen in 2024) and was a RISD faculty member for 23 years, a founder of the Studio Museum in Harlem, and had his work featured in the Whitney.
Gallery Night will donate a portion of the evening's proceeds to Ulli Ryder's efforts to replace the stolen medallions.
Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the story of one of Providence’s remarkable local figures!
