Margalla Trail Runners is set to make history with the 5th edition of the Galiyat Mountain Trail Race (GMT), introducing, for the very first time in Pakistan, a 100km trail race. This landmark achievement marks a new chapter in the country’s trail running landscape, offering an unparalleled endurance challenge in one of the most breathtaking mountain regions.
The Galiyat Mountain Trail Race is renowned for being exciting, thrilling, and truly demanding, catering to runners of all levels with multiple race categories: 100km, 60km, 40km, and 20km. Each distance takes participants across the stunning and scenic trails of the Galiyat Mountains, delivering a unique blend of natural beauty and technical terrain that defines world-class trail running.
Organized under the banner of Margalla Trail Runners, GMT has proudly earned international recognition by becoming part of the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) and the UTMB® (Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc) Index Races. As an official ITRA and UTMB® Index Race event, GMT stands among globally recognized trail races, offering runners the opportunity to compete on an international standard.
The Galiyat Mountain Trail spans a connected network of trails stretching from Thandiyani to Khaira Gali, nestled within the Himalayan foothills in the Abbottabad District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Known for their lush forests, soft-dirt paths, and panoramic views, these trails are considered among the finest for trail and mountain running in the region. GMT weaves together these routes into an unforgettable racing experience through the heart of the Galiyat Mountains.
