Brownian Motion: A night of poetry and song all mixed up with funny bits - ClerknWell ARTslab brings you Gabriel Moreno, Nadia Drews, Andrew James Brown, and Million Pebble Beach, with hosts Diego Brown &the Good Fairy. There's a lot of brown going on here. 8:15pm upstairs at The Betsey Trotwood. Gabriel Moreno - is a Gibraltarian singer-songwriter, currently based in London. An irresistibly engaging performer, he combines a latin exuberance and passion with a rare lyrical calibre (he is also an accomplished poet, with 12 books published to date). Accompanied by the Quivering Poets (acclaimed musicians from the London and Barcelona jazz and folk scene), he creates a live experience that has been described as ”Taberna Folk” - both energetic and intimate, anarchic and absorbing. He's thrilled audiences across South America, the USA and Europe, including recent sets at Wilderness, The Great British Folk Festival and Purbeck Valley Folk Festival, and has been championed by the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Cerys Matthews, with his sonorous baritone and poetical lyrics often seeing him compared to such luminary wordsmiths as Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Bill Callahan.
Nadia Drews
Nadia Drews first made her name in biro, in Byron in the margins of her Mother's library-like book collection. Becoming a no-mark quickly followed when the grammar of the local comprehensive put, what appeared to be a full stop on any ambition, let alone a literary one. Proofreading more closely as an adult, she began a new chapter of songs, plays and poems about the other buggers whose lives stayed unwritten.
Million Pebble Beach
Poetic and original story songs on piano. Million Pebble Beach is the nom de guerre of Portsmouth's singer-songwriter and pianist, Claire Baker. Her songs are whimsical, vividly imagined dream-like stories and journeys - "Grimm's Fairytales on piano". Her performances are lively, dreamy and engaging. Her voice and musical style has been likened to Aldous Harding, Kate Bush, Björk, Regina Spektor, John Grant and Cate Le Bon.
Andrew James Brown is a poet with a funny bone. But we'll let him explain.
