Bridging Cultures: British Georgian Society 20th Anniversary

Following the Opening Film of the 8th London Georgian Film Festival founded by BGS in 2005, The Colour of Pomegranates celebrating 100 years since Parajanov was born in Tbilisi in 1924

The British Georgian Society dates back to Sir John Oliver Wardrop, a notable British diplomat and the UK's first Chief Commissioner of Transcaucasia in Georgia. He was a key figure in advancing Georgian studies at Oxford University from 1919 to 1921 and founded the Georgian Society in London. In 1930, he also co-founded the Georgian Historical Society with W.E.D. Allen, which published the journal Georgica.

Today, the British Georgian Society proudly carries on Sir Wardrop's legacy.
Over the last 20 years, the BGS has been a vibrant hub for all things Georgia-related, including art, film, music, culture, archaeology, history, and business, helping to strengthen British-Georgian ties.

We’re thrilled to share that our guest list includes BGS patrons, honorary presidents, advisers, former ambassadors to the UK and Georgia, ex-officio members, and active Georgian contributors who are passionate about promoting Georgia in the UK.
