About this Event
Travel back in time with Opera on Tap Philadelphia in Germantown!
We are delighted to be at Cliveden for the first time, presenting a concert of 18th century opera. Cliveden's decor has been redone to 18th century aesthetics, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Cliveden, also known as the Benjamin Chew House, was the scene of some of the bloodiest fighting of the battle of Germantown in 1777.
Visit Cliveden earlier in the day for a tour of the main house, and join us in the carriage house at 7:00pm for a period-appropriate operatic recital. Expect to hear favorites from Mozart and Handel as well as lesser-known forgotten works.
Featuring Opera on Tap performers:
Isabelle Zeledón
Kelly Rubinsohn
Kyle Chastulik
Sara Nealley
Accompanied by Aurelien Eulert
More about Cliveden: Benjamin Chew purchased the land in the then-rural area of Germantown to escape yellow fever outbreaks in urban Philadelphia. Cliveden was constructed between 1763 and 1767. The estate was occupied by seven generations of the Chew family and donated to the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1972.
Cliveden hosts the annual Revolutionary Germantown Festival each October.
