Functional drinks are helping shape the future of how we drink, socialise and approach our wellbeing.

It’s a fast-growing category within the no and low space, with drinks designed to help people connect with some of the more positive moods and feelings we associate with alcohol - just without the downside.

But in a space that’s still relatively new, it can be hard to know what to choose - or even what’s out there in the first place. And what heck are adaptogens and nootropics, and what do they do for me?

Through my work as a judge at The World Alcohol-Free Awards, alongside training with leading educators and producers in the industry, I’ve developed a deep understanding of this fast-growing category. I’m looking forward to sharing that knowledge with you, along with some carefully selected recommendations.

We’ll explore a range of drinks featuring ingredients like adaptogens, nootropics, ashwagandha, lion’s mane, and more - each designed to support and enhance different “mood states”, from calm and relaxation to uplift, energy, and social connection.

We’ll taste our way through a selection of functional beers, wines, sodas and spirits (all alcohol-free), while sharing insights into the ingredients used, and how to choose which drinks enhance the 'mood state' that works best for you.
