In the Kingdom of Arendelle, the young Princesses Elsa and Anna share a close and loving bond until Elsa's uncontrollable ice magic accidentally injures Anna. To protect her, their parents isolate the sisters and hide Elsa's powers from the world.Years later, Elsa is crowned Queen. During the festivities, Anna meets the dashing Prince Hans, falls in love at first sight and asks Elsa's blessing for their marriage. The confrontation causes Elsa to lose control, trapping the Kingdom in an eternal winter.
Afraid of her own powers, Elsa flees to the isolation of the North mountain. With the help of Kristoff and his reindeer sidekick, Sven, Anna sets off to find her sister. On their journey through the harsh winter conditions, they encounter the magical snowman, Olaf, and together they track Elsa to her glistening ice palace.
Still unable to control her powers, Elsa again strikes Anna, this time with a fatal icy shard to her heart. Kristoff takes Anna to the mystical Hidden Mountain Folk, who reveal that only 'an act of true love' can save Anna from turning into solid ice.
In a desperate dash back to Arendelle, will Kristoff, Sven and Olaf find the 'act of true love' that will save Anna from becoming frozen forever?
