About this Event

ANT Neuro-Ghent University bootcamp for From Mind to Motion: Exploring Neurorehabilitation and Mobile Brain Imaging

Join Us for the Mind to Motion Bootcamp!

Explore cutting-edge techniques in neurorehabilitation and Mobile Brain Imaging (MoBI) at this unique educational event, hosted by Ghent University. This bootcamp is designed for early-career researchers, Master's, and PhD students interested in studying the interplay between cognition, perception, and motor control in both healthy and clinical populations.

Begin each day with the ANT Neuro team as we introduce the core concepts behind EEG-based neurophysiology and the technological challenges of capturing brain activity during motion. Learn how EEG systems combined with kinematic tracking and multi-modal methods can provide insights into neurorehabilitation, cognitive processing, and sensory integration. Educational sessions will transition into hands-on demonstrations, where participants will gain experience in setting up EEG recordings, acquiring high-quality data, and performing basic analyses.

Engage in academic-led symposiums from leading experts, including Kinematics and Rehabilitation – understanding motor patterns in recovery; Neurorehabilitation in Clinical Contexts – EEG as a tool to monitor treatment outcomes; Cognitive-Affective Mechanisms of Pain and Sensation; Mobile Brain Imaging – capturing brain activity in motion; Multi-Modal Approaches in Neuroscience – integrating EEG, behavior, and physiology.

These sessions will offer a comprehensive view of how brain rhythms and body movement interact in various experimental and clinical applications. Don't miss this opportunity to enhance your knowledge of EEG, kinematic tracking, and multi-modal approaches, connect with fellow researchers, and gain hands-on skills in neurorehabilitation applications.

Secure your place now for an inspiring journey from Mind to Motion!

About the speakers

Prof. dr. Erik Witvrouw

Ghent University – Department of Rehabilitation Sciences - Sports Medicine and Musculoskeletal Research Unit Ghent, Belgium

Erik Witvrouw is professor at the department of Rehabilitation Science and Physiotherapy, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Ghent University. His main area of research is prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries in sports. He authored almost 200 SCI publications in international peer reviewed journals and obtained funding for more than 40 scientific and corporate service projects. He has won several National and International awards in the field of Sports Medicine, and has been keynote lecturer and invited lecturer at many international congresses (>200). He has been embedded scientist at Liverpool Football club from 2018-2021. He is the president of the Belgian Federation of sports physiotherapy (BFSPT)from 2018-present.

Robbe Cappelleman, Ph.D. Candidate

Ghent University – Department of Rehabilitation Sciences - Sports Medicine and Musculoskeletal Research Unit Ghent, Belgium

Robbe Capelleman obtained his Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy from Ghent University in 2023. Shortly after graduating, he began working as an independent physiotherapist, with a particular interest in the treatment of lower limb sports injuries. In January 2024, he commenced his doctoral fellowship at Ghent University, where he is a member of the Sports Medicine and Musculoskeletal Research Unit Ghent. His research focuses on neuroplastic changes, sport-specific biomechanics, and the integration of Virtual Reality in Return-to-Sport testing following Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction.

Emile Cloet, Ph.D. Candidate

KU Leuven – Department of Rehabilitation Sciences - Research Group for Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, Belgium

Emile Cloet graduated as a physical therapist at the KU Leuven in 2022. After graduation, he gained 6 months of experience as a physical therapist in an independent practice and hospital before starting a joint PhD at the KU Leuven and UGent. His research is focused on uncovering alterations in muscle and brain activation patterns after an ACL reconstruction.

Arne Defour, Ph.D. Candidate

Ghent University – Department of Rehabilitation Sciences - Neurological and Ageing Rehabilitation Research Unit Ghent, Belgium

Arne Defour is an FWO PhD Fellow investigating the interaction between brain and muscle activity during walking after stroke. His research utilizes EEG to examine brain activity and sEMG to analyze muscle activation in 15 full-body bilateral muscles. By exploring motor control and neurophysiological adaptations, he aims to contribute to improve rehabilitation strategies for stroke survivors.

Annelien Dorme, Ph.D. Candidate

Ghent University – Department of Rehabilitation Sciences -Neurological and Ageing Rehabilitation Research Unit Ghent, Belgium

Annelien Dorme is a speech-language pathologist and is currently enrolled as an FWO PhD fellow fundamental research at Ghent University. Her research primarily focuses on the study of speech perception and attention in relation to bilingualism in adults who stutter, using linguistic event-related potentials (ERPs). In addition, she investigates the reliability of ERPs for both longitudinal research and therapeutic applications.

Oona Cromheecke, Ph.D. Candidate

Ghent University – Department of Rehabilitation Sciences - Neurological and Ageing Rehabilitation Research Unit Ghent, Belgium

Oona Cromheecke is a cognitive psychologist currently pursuing a PhD at Ghent University. Her research explores the interplay between language control and cognitive control in healthy individuals, as well as language decline and language intervention in monolinguals and bilinguals with Alzheimer’s Disease, using event-related potentials (ERPs). She also examines the reliability of ERP measures in both experimental and clinical settings.

Dr. Roman Vakhrushev

Application Specialist, ANT Neuro, Germany

Dr. Roman Vakhrushev is a neuroscientist interested in human visual and auditory sensory systems. During his Ph.D. in Göttingen, Germany, he investigated cross-modal reward mechanisms in early sensory systems. There he gave a series of lectures to university students on psychophysical methods, statistical analysis, and good practices in EEG experiments. Another range of his interests lies in attentional mechanisms, specifically, mechanisms of summary statistics and subliminal perception. Overall, Dr. Roman Vakhrushev has expertise in psychophysics, eye-tracking, and EEG.

Ir. Krittika Choudhury

Head of Customer Success, ANT Neuro, the Netherlands

ir. Krittika Choudhury, MSc is a biomedical engineer and holds a master’s degree from the University of Twente, The Netherlands where she chose to specialize in the Neural Motor systems track. Her Master thesis was focused on studying upper limb movements of stroke subjects using neuromechanical modeling and incorporating hd-EMG and kinematic data as inputs to arrive at representative musculoskeletal models of the wrist joint. Her main interest areas include hd-EMG, EEG, joint kinematics and biomechanical modeling. Currently, she leads the Customer Success Team at ANT Neuro/eemagine which comprises of a group of Application Specialists and Technical Support Engineers who work towards helping end-users leverage ANT Neuro products to the best of their needs.
