About this Event

Please note that this training is intended for Police professionals working within the HIPS (Hampshire) area.

Southampton Domestic Abuse and VAWG Partnership and Southampton Safeguarding Partnership, alongside partner agencies, invites you to a full-day learning and collaboration event focused on strengthening our collective response to domestic abuse and suicide prevention.

About the Event

From Harm to Hope brings together national experts, local practitioners, voluntary sector organisations, and families impacted by domestic abuse and suicide. The day is designed to support high‑quality, evidence‑informed learning that will shape how services across the city identify and respond to risk.

Key features include:

  • A strong multi‑agency programme blending national insight with local practice and lived experience.
  • Evidence‑based learning from Professor Jane Monkton-Smith on suicide and homicide timelines and prevention approaches.
  • A focus on practitioner confidence and sustainability, linking learning to future training and development opportunities.
  • Inclusive partnership involvement, with stalls, safe spaces, and contributions from a wide range of statutory and voluntary sector partners.
  • Commitment to co‑production and next steps, ensuring that shared learning translates into meaningful system improvement.

We All Have a Part to Play

This interactive, collaborative day will explore how organisations across the city can work together to prevent harm earlier, address safeguarding concerns effectively, and build pathways to safety, recovery and hope. Every organisation—statutory, commissioned, business or voluntary—has a role in supporting people in Southampton.

By attending, you will help shape shared priorities, strengthen cross‑sector relationships, and contribute to better outcomes for our communities.

Aims and Objectives

From Harm to Hope aims to deepen understanding and improve the multi‑agency response to domestic abuse and suicide prevention. The programme is structured around learning, reflection, and action.

You will:

  • Increase awareness of national and local Domestic Abuse Related Death Reviews (DARDRs) and their key learning themes.
  • Hear and learn from the voices of families affected by domestic abuse and suicide.
  • Build confidence through evidence‑informed content on suicide prevention in the context of domestic abuse.
  • Take part in cross‑agency reflection on what we can do differently to prevent future harm.

What to Expect

  • Presentations from national and local speakers
  • Lived‑experience contributions from family members
  • Insight into shared aims, objectives, and developing milestones
  • Opportunities for collaborative discussion and planning
  • Space to share local practice, challenges and ideas

Relavent information will be sent to registered emails prior to the training date.

If you are not a HIPS Police attendee and have booked a place on this session, your booking will be cancelled and a refund issued.
