About this Event

The Aerospace Legacy That Put Stuart on the Map

What do lunar missions, military aircraft, cutting-edge aerostructures, and the future of aviation all have in common?
Stuart, Florida.

Join the Elliott Museum for a fascinating journey through the evolution of aerospace manufacturing on the Treasure Coast in From Grumman to Daher, an engaging presentation that uncovers how one local industry helped shape global aviation.

From the pioneering days of Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation to the modern innovations of Daher Aerospace, this lecture explores decades of engineering excellence, technological breakthroughs, and the people behind the machines that transformed Stuart into a nationally significant aerospace hub.

Guests will hear firsthand stories and insider perspectives from two speakers deeply connected to this remarkable legacy:

Ken Tolve spent many years working at Grumman and has become a beloved Elliott Museum volunteer known for bringing aviation history to life through storytelling, technical insight, and personal experience. His passion for aerospace history and Grumman’s impact on the region has made him a favorite among museum guests.

Joining him is Brian Westphal, Training Manager at Daher, the global aerospace company that continues Stuart’s proud tradition of advanced aviation manufacturing and aerostructures production. Daher represents the next chapter in a story that began generations ago and continues to evolve today.

This presentation offers a rare look at the transformation of an industry that not only influenced aviation history, but also shaped the economy, workforce, and identity of Martin County itself.

Whether you are fascinated by aircraft engineering, local history, innovation, or the stories of the people who built America’s aerospace future, this is a lecture you will not want to miss.
