From Data to Action: Using Community Report Cards for Equitable Land Use Planning
This webinar presents a collaborative, step-by-step approach designed to help Pennsylvania communities make sense of local data, recognize key assets and challenges, and translate insights into practical strategies for equitable land use. Participants will explore a framework that combines quantitative data with resident perspectives to assess community conditions. The session will demonstrate how to leverage local data alongside local knowledge to set priorities, consider effective approaches to change, and craft short- and long-term action plans that align with community values and promote equity.
By the end of this session, participants will be familiar with a participatory process that can be utilized to:
- Interpret and contextualize community-level data using survey results, local knowledge, and lived experiences
- Evaluate community performance across multiple dimensions using the Community Capitals Framework
- Identify key assets and challenges that influence land use decisions
- Explore and select approaches to change that promote equity and sustainability in planning
- Develop actionable strategies by brainstorming and prioritizing short-term and long-term steps for implementation

- Justine Lindemann, Assistant Professor in Community Development and Resilience, Penn State Department of Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education
