Ready to learn how to throw on the pottery wheel? This six-week series is a hands-on, beginner-friendly (and skill-building for returners) wheel class that walks you through the full studio process: from clay prep and safe studio habits, to trimming, glazing, and even how the kiln gets loaded. You’ll leave with practical skills, a stronger understanding of how pottery works, and a collection of finished pieces you made yourself.
What You’ll Learn Over six weeks, you’ll build confidence with the wheel while learning the behind-the-scenes steps that make great pottery possible.

Clay basics: types of clay, wedging, moisture management, reclaiming, and how to avoid cracks/warping
Throwing fundamentals: centering, opening, pulling walls, shaping, and troubleshooting common issues
Studio setup & safety: tools, cleanup, dust control, and safe habits around equipment and materials
Trimming & finishing: when a piece is ready to trim, creating foot rings, refining forms, and handles (as time allows)
Glazing: glaze safety, dipping/brushing basics, glaze combinations, and how to get consistent results
Kiln loading (intro): how pieces are spaced, why kiln shelves are prepped, and what makes a load safe and successful
Perfect for total beginners who want a structured start. Students who’ve tried the wheel once or twice and want to solidify skills. Anyone who wants to understand the whole pottery process not just throwing.
