Curious about the pottery wheel but not sure where to start?
The First Throw is a beginner-friendly, hands-on intro where you'll learn the core skills of wheel throwing in a supportive studio setting. In this 3-hour session, we'll walk you through the fundamentals step-by-step: how to set up at the wheel, prepare your clay, and build confidence with the motions that make throwing work. Expect a mix of demo + practice time.
What you'll learn- How to wedge and prepare clay for the wheel Finding center (the key to everything.) Opening the clay and pulling up walls Shaping simple forms like a small bowl or cylinder Tips for troubleshooting common beginner challenges (wobbles, collapses, uneven walls) Glazing (come in on your own time)
After your class, we'll take care of the drying and firing process. Once your pottery is ready (typically within 2 weeks), you can drop in to glaze at a later date during available studio times—no need to book a separate class just to finish your piece.
Just 6 students per session for extra guidance, questions answered quickly, and a comfortable pace.
