Part One: Discovery Park Workshop (Oct 14, 7-9pm)

This cinematic horror photography workshop is set against the forests, trails, and historic landscapes of Seattle’s Discovery Park. Inspired by Southern Gothic horror, classic vampire films, werewolf folklore, and the eerie beauty of the Pacific Northwest, Zeus Ramirez will guide you as build scenes that feel pulled from a forgotten horror film candlelit rituals in the woods, mysterious figures emerging from the darkness, vampires wandering through the night, and the possibility of something much worse hiding just outside the frame. We’ll focus on practical lighting, atmosphere, composition, movement, and in-camera effects to create images that feel haunting and cinematic rather than staged. The goal is to create photos that tell a story and leave something unexplained.

Part Two: Post Processing at Glazer’s Camera (Oct 17, 1:00-2:30pm)

The story continues in the post-processing class at Glazer’s Camera, in the second floor Classroom, where we’ll take the images created during Fright in Focus and push them further into their cinematic world. Zeus will take you through his process for turning a raw photograph into a finished image, including color grading, contrast, selective lighting, environmental cleanup, atmospheric effects, and subtle compositing. We’ll look at how small decisions in Photoshop and Lightroom can completely change the mood and story of an image transforming a straightforward location photograph into something that feels like a frame from a film. The class will focus on creating a cohesive visual language while still keeping the photograph grounded in the original capture.
