Friends of Penlee Talk: St Just artist David Haughton

Join the Friends of Penlee House for a fascinating evening exploring the life and work of St Just artist David Haughton (1924–1991). Best known for his beautifully observed drawings, paintings and etchings of the former mining town of St Just, Haughton also created striking semi-abstract works that established him as an important figure in post-war British art.
Presented by Haughton's daughter, Frances Haughton, this illustrated talk will delve into his artistic journey, his connections with the St Ives art scene, and friendships with artists including Prunella Clough, Barbara Hepworth, Rose Hilton, Ben Nicholson, John Wells and Bryan Wynter. Frances will also share insights from her new book, David Haughton: Art, Life and the Cornish Landscape, which brings fresh material to light about her father's life and work in Cornwall.
Copies of the book will be available to purchase on the evening, and Frances will be happy to sign them.
The talk coincides with a special exhibition of Haughton's St Just works at the Penwith Gallery in St Ives, on display from 4–30 September.
