Swing by Galloway's Wine & Beer Bar on the lower level of The Belted Goat between 1 pm – 3 pm to learn about different wines every week. Want to learn more about our weekly tastings? Check the Fearrington Village calendar for our wine events! This week: Sulauze wines from Provence, France.
Domaine de Sulauze is a dynamic, 100-hectare biodynamic estate located in the Côteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation of France, just outside the town of Miramas. Established in 2004 by Guillaume and Karina Lefèvre, this mixed-use farm operates as a diverse ecosystem where 30 hectares of vineyards thrive alongside olive trees, wheat fields, a craft brewery, and free-roaming livestock. The estate takes its name from lauze, a unique, flaky limestone soil that provides excellent drainage and imparts a distinct mineral complexity to the grapes. As leaders in the region's natural wine movement, the winemakers follow the lunar calendar and employ minimal-intervention cellar practices, including fermentation with native yeasts, no fining or filtration, and little to no added sulfites. Their resulting portfolio—highlighted by the crisp, sea-salt-tinged Pomponette rosé and the vibrant, fruit-forward Cochon and Les Amis reds—brims with the raw, joyful energy of the Mediterranean terroir.
