Free Teacher Workshop: Decrease Stress and Increase Engagement

As we limp … *ahem* … soar gracefully toward a holiday break, educators and learners can benefit from some research-supported ideas for decreasing stress and anxiety in the classroom. In addition to diminishing stress, these ideas are associated with increasing engagement, learning, a sense of belonging, and a host of other positive educational outcomes. Participants will learn activities and ideas before collaborating with other educators to develop direct applications in their own classroom. During and following the workshop, participants will gather ideas about using SCRAP resources to support their new activities. Join Dr. Stephanie Rafanelli for a workshop offering concrete curricular and pedagogical ideas for your middle or high school classroom.

About Stephanie

Stephanie Rafanelli, PhD is an educational coach, consultant, and research associate. Her research interests include teacher learning, connecting educational research with practice, and adolescent girls’ participation in science. She has more than 30 years of experience in formal and informal learning settings, including two decades as a classroom science teacher and an independent-school administrator. She founded and ran summer and after-school programs focused on nurturing science interest, creative thinking, and leadership (including Sally Ride Science Camp for Girls and Menlo Summer Explorations). Stephanie has worked with schools and educational programs serving ages three to adult to re-design curricular scopes and sequences, conduct program evaluations, and support faculty in processes of reflection and growth. Stephanie has a B.S. in Biology, an M.A., and a Ph.D. in Science Education, all from Stanford University.
