Stage Makeup & Wig Application with Dany Rousseau
10:30am – 1:30pm at King’s Theatre
FREE for All Ages!!!
Please bring your own snack and drinks, and clean footwear for the stage.
This workshop was developed with the aim of enhancing theatre skills for performers of all ages. Often, being tasked with having to put on one’s own stage makeup can lead to anxiety before a performance, especially if a person is not used to applying or wearing makeup. Add a wig into the mix, and a few poorly placed bobby pins, and now anxiety has to contend with a headache — and it’s almost curtain call! In this three-hour session, Dany Rousseau covers basic stage makeup application and wig fastening for all performers.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own makeup and/or notebook to take notes. Mirrors will be provided.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: This three-hour session covers basic stage makeup and wig fastening, as well as basic wig styling, and emphasizes the significance of simple makeup techniques (and a few well-placed hairpins). During this session, Dany will walk participants of all ages through the makeup and wig application process, as well as some light SFX, using simple tools and demonstrating replicable steps that participants can practice and use. While this session is aimed at performers of all genders, ages, and abilities, parents of rising theatre stars are encouraged to attend the workshop, as often they are not only the support team, but the makeup team, too. These skills not only foster confidence in young actors, but help all actors feel more prepared & confident for their future stage performances.
Dany has been focused on developing workshops aimed at enhancing theatre skills for new and experienced performers (of all ages). Dany has also performed in plays, musicals and cabarets across North America, as well as directed several musical & cabaret productions at King’s Theatre. Recent performances include The Mamma Mia Interactive Movie Show, A 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol, Dracula, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and several community cabarets. This year, she’s keeping the hits coming with some fun and exciting productions, as well as a new, up-and-coming production company aimed at creating more theatrical opportunities for our vibrant and talented community!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Dany Rousseau is an actor, singer, choreographer, make-up artist, director and teacher, transplanted from NYC and currently residing in Bear River. Her love of musical theatre began at the tender age of four after she was mesmerized by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz. A single live performance of Annie at 8 had her hooked and, after joining former Rockette Bea Brautigam’s dance school, she started her “career” in acting at the age of 10. For over 25 years, Dany has performed as an actor and singer throughout CT and NYC (USA), on film and on stage, and has completed coursework through The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, as well as Steps Dance Studio NYC. After moving to Bear River in 2021, she has committed herself to her new community and growing its community theatre. She is a high school teacher, an artist, as well as a Production Designer and Performance Coach, and channels her artistic skills into theatre by way of set, prop, costume, hair and makeup design, application, and construction. She has been doing her own stage makeup for over 25 years, and production stage makeup for over 15 years. She has worked several events as a professional face painter over the past two decades.
