Join us on Wednesday from 6:30 – 8 pm for our Public Domain Theatre program! This month’s free movie is the enchanting 1926 animated film The Adventures of Prince Achmed.
Directed by Lotte Reiniger, this groundbreaking fairy tale is the oldest surviving feature-length animated film in history. Inspired by stories from One Thousand and One Nights, the film follows Prince Achmed on a magical journey filled with flying horses, sorcerers, demons, and daring rescues—brought to life through exquisitely detailed silhouette animation. Visually stunning and endlessly imaginative, the film is a landmark achievement in animation and cinema.
💡 Fun fact: Every character and setting was hand-cut from paper and animated frame by frame, a process that took Reiniger and her collaborators several years to complete.
