About this Event
This event offers an opportunity to learn more about Moey Blanco’s multidisciplinary practice, see works in progress, and engage in conversation around how play and whimsy inform his work.
During the four-week residency in March, Moey Blanco will be developing a collection of small, character-driven sculptures expanding on an ongoing project, The Psychology of Whimsy. This work explores how play, tenderness, and nostalgia can function as emotional infrastructure within everyday environments.
Join us for an afternoon of playful conversation, refreshments, and art!

ABOUT MOEY BLANCO
Moey Blanco is a multidisciplinary artist based in Calgary, Alberta, originally from Manila, Philippines. His work explores the space where humour meets sincerity, using playful characters, bold lines, and vibrant colour to reflect on connection, nostalgia, and the softer sides of being human. Influenced by the Japanese postmodern movement Superflat and artists such as Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, and James Jean, Blanco’s practice blends whimsy with emotional reflection.
Working across murals, installations, apparel, and public art, Blanco creates pieces that move between galleries and everyday spaces. They have collaborated with organizations including NVrlnd Arts Foundation, Arts Commons, Bird Creatives, Carvel Creative, and Calgary Transit, with work featured in YYC BUMP, Rise Up, and Chinook Blast.
Blanco is also the co-founder of Indioz Bravoz, a collective connecting Filipino artists across the Western diaspora. Blanco's work has been exhibited internationally at Secret Fresh Gallery in Manila and Shug Gallery in Norwich, exploring how art can create moments of joy, care, and connection.
