Free Movie: Can't Stop Change: Queer Climate Stories from the FL Frontlines

As Florida's violent legislation dominates headlines, LGBTQ2S+ communities are also being threatened by accelerating climate change. The film weaves interviews with LGBTQ2S+ artists, organizers, and educators across Florida into an intersectional climate justice narrative.

In each of Florida’s regions, interviewees share how ecologies, histories, and political landscapes intersect with their lives. In South Florida, interviewees discuss the impacts of climate change and repressive legislation on diasporic and immigrant communities. In Central Florida, interviewees share stories from mutual aid disaster relief efforts, detailing the failure of the state to adequately assist marginalized communities during hurricanes. In North Florida, interviewees discuss the rise in anti-trans legislation and the devastating decisions trans people are making about whether or not to stay in Florida.

Then the film shifts into deep political analysis of the root causes beneath Florida’s climate crises and social injustices. This simultaneously emphasizes the dreams, joy, and brilliance of queer and trans people. The film concludes with concrete examples of resistance efforts blossoming across the state, calling audiences to engage in the collective work of “shaping change.”

The film contains open captions in Spanish and English. Please note that the film is unrated and contains some adult language.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and sexual health emergency preparedness kits will be freely available to take after the event.
