About this Event
The Tragedy of the Korean War — Through Original American Press
Peace rather than War
This exhibition publicly unveils, for the first time, more than 50 original American newspaper articles that vividly recorded the devastation of the Korean War between 1950 and 1953. These rare archival materials — collected over decades by Chairman Lee Choon-bum of the NY branch — bear witness, through the eyes of the era, to one of the most painful chapters of Korean history.
Chairman Lee began collecting Korean cultural artifacts in the early 1980s. Through a chance interview, he learned of a private collector who possessed wartime newspapers from the Korean War. As a Korean American who deeply understands the weight this war carries in history, he traveled out of state to personally acquire these invaluable materials.
