FREE Guided Nature Walk to Gledholt Woods Local Nature Reserve

This walk will be led by Environmental Projects in Kirklees (EPIKS) ranger, Gilly, who has a specialist knowledge of urban wild landscapes.

The walk will start in St Georges Square, Huddersfield Railway Station, and follow a route through Greenhead Park to up to Gledholt Bank where will be met by the friends of Gledholt Local Nature Reserve, who will share an insight into what makes this area so valuable to wildlife and the local community. We will learn of the history of the woodland,TP pond and what its future care requires.

From the nature reserve we will return to the park, past the historic Gledholt Hall, which has a history dating back to mediaeval times.

We will then continue our walk to Greenhead Park, here we will look at how the natural history of the park is reflected in the landscape planting. You are invited to stop in the park for lunch, either bring your own food and drink or visit one of the parks cafes.

This walk is just under 3 miles and takes in a variety of terrain; town centre streets, side roads and footpaths. The footpaths include steps and unpaved surfaces. The pace will be very steady, and stops will be frequent. It is suitable for those who like a slow pace and frequent opportunities to talk.

Info: Meet at the main entrance to Hudersfield Railway Station, St Georges Square. Your EPIKS guide will be waiting for you from 10.45am. The walk will depart promptly at 11.00am.

Info: We plan to return to Greenhead Park at around 1.30pm. You can stop here to have lunch and refreshments. There are toilets and cafes at both ends of the park.
