Robbie Summerour comments “For millions of years worms have been hard at work breaking down organic materials and returning nutrients to the soil. Using worms to recycle food scraps and other organic material into a valuable soil amendment is called vermicompost or worm compost. Learn why worms have such an important place in our ecosystem and how our gardens can benefit through a live demonstration of the worm composting process from beginning to end. So roll up your sleeves and be prepared to dive into playing with worms while finding out that raising worms for your garden can be fun and exciting!”
Master Gardener Robbie Summerour is a woman on a mission of education and encouragement. She has turned her passion into a business – the Gospel Urban Farmer – and has converted her one-acre lot into a living classroom. She makes her home in Hixson where gardening raising Red Wiggler worms for worm composting and teaching keep her busy. Robbie and her gardening demonstrations are a feature at MGHC’s annual Master Your Garden Expo and Fall Garden Festival.
