Free Gardening Class: Orchids for Home Growers

The Master Gardeners of Hamilton County (MGHC), in association with the University of Tennessee Extension, continue their monthly series of 3rd Saturday Free Gardening Classes on Saturday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m., with “Orchids for Home Growers” taught by Charles Davidson, Master Gardener and American Orchid Society member. MGHC’s 3rd Saturday Free Gardening Classes take place at the UT-TSU Hamilton County Extension Center, 6183 Adamson Circle, off Bonny Oaks Drive in Chattanooga. The public is requested to register to attend at: https://mghc.org/calendar/3rd-saturday-class-orchids-for-home-growers/

Master Gardener Debbie Bauder comments, “Do you have problems growing orchids? Do they bloom once but never bloom again? In this class, Charles Davidson, Master Gardener and member of the American Orchid Society, will share his expertise on how to care for orchids in your home so they can continue to grow and bloom successfully. His presentation will focus on the culture of orchids for the home environment, demonstrating that with careful attention to light, moisture, and temperature, anyone can easily have orchids that will bloom beautifully year after year.”

Charles Davidson notes, “Growing orchids can become a fascinating hobby for those interested in this diverse family of flowering plants. In nature, orchids are found on every continent except the polar regions. The most commonly grown orchids are “epiphytes” – which means that they have specialized roots that cling to trees in their natural environment. Orchids are also unique in their ability to hybridize between genus and species, resulting in thousands of hybrids.”
