This September, our Friday Art Talks become Art Walks. Join Gallery staff and special guests as they lead walking conversations of the National Collection, landscapes and stories across the Gallery’s indoor and outdoor spaces. Celebrating the arrival of spring and part of Floriade About Town 2026, Friday Art Walks invite you to experience art and nature together, discovering the collection one step at a time.
This Art Talk starts at Mark Di Suvero, Ik ook, 1971-72 located on the lakeside of the Sculpture Garden. For directions to the work of art, please see the Sculpture Garden Map. Ik ook is marked as number 19.
Join Deirdre Cannon, Curator, Sculpture Garden on a walk to learn about some of the abstract sculptures that populate the landscape of the National Gallery.
Ik ook 1971-72 by Mark Di Suvero, Cones 1982 by Bert Flugelman and Virginia 1970 by Clement Meadmore were some of the first works installed in the Sculpture Garden in the early 1980s. This Art Walk introduces the artists and ideas behind these three monumental works that chart the influence of abstraction and minimalism on 20th century public sculpture.
This is a free drop-in event.
Bookings are not required, but capacity is limited.
Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
Duration: 45 mins including Q&A
