About Yin Yoga:
This practice is rooted in functional yoga, which is based on the scientifically-proven premise that our skeletons, tissues, physiology, temperament, and motivation are uniquely ours. This uniqueness includes the full spectrum of talents and limitations that define who we are.
It is a practice that takes you on a journey deep inside yourself, and you might even snooze at times from being so deeply relaxed. By staying in a pose for 2-6 minutes, we aim to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, releasing tension. Over the course of 60 minutes, we will hold 4–6 poses, allowing ample time between each one to simply be. Our focus is on relaxing the body to begin de-stressing the fascia.
The fascia can hold pain, emotions, and stress, and it’s often the fascia that causes a feeling of tightness in the body. The goal is not to (over)stretch but to find a comfortable space where you can enjoy the sensations. These sensations might intensify over time, and you can always adjust yourself if you feel pain. We are not looking for injury-related pain or pain that causes muscles to tense or contract.
We will practice to ambient tunes that help us go deeper into the body.
Wear: Long or short pants; socks are optional; short or long sleeves.
We provide blankets, blocks, and straps.
