UTC-04:00Location
Imagination Stage | Bethesda, MD
About this Event
Two hours of laughing with people you’ve never met. You’ll leave looser, braver, and surprised by your own creativity.
A free improv workshop for adults — 18 and over — one Monday evening only at Imagination Stage in downtown Bethesda. (Imagination Stage is best known as a children’s theater; this class is for grown-ups.)
When: Monday, June 8, 2026, 7:00–9:00 PM
Where: Imagination Stage, 4908 Auburn Avenue, Bethesda, MD
Cost: Free
Ages: 18 and over
Seats: 14
Photo release required. A professional photographer will be present for website and marketing photos. You’ll agree to a photo release during registration and sign a paper copy at the door.
You won’t perform alone. You won’t be put on the spot in front of strangers. You won’t have to be funny.
You’ll be on your feet from minute one, playing simple games that loosen you up and bring out your imagination. By the end of the evening, you’ll have created things with other beginners that none of you saw coming — and laughed more than you’ve laughed all week.
What students say
“It’s like an adult summer camp. The warm-ups are a hoot. Class gives me a chance to forget my responsibilities and focus on what’s right in front of me. What a luxury.” — Renee Panagos
“I was always jealous of friends who had a creative outlet — a way to express themselves outside of work and family. I can barely draw a stick figure. This class opened that creative door for me. Anyone can do it.” — Julie Samuelson
Who comes to a class like this
Lawyers. Teachers. Engineers. Nurses. Office workers. Retirees. Parents. People who just moved to the area. People who saw something about improv online and thought, why not.
They come to have fun, meet new people, get sharper at thinking on their feet, and grow in ways adult life doesn’t always offer — without committing to a six-week class first.
Why this class is free
A professional photographer will be at the class that evening to capture it in action for our website and marketing materials. Your willingness to appear in the photos is what makes the free evening possible. Precipice Improv Theater (founded 1995) is sponsoring.
About the teacher
Gary Jacobs produced the first commercial improv show in Washington in 1979. He founded Precipice Improv Theater in 1995 — its actors have performed hundreds of full-length improvised comic plays — and has taught improv from San Francisco to Auckland, New Zealand.
