Fountains Ways Autumn Pilgrimage - Long Walk (7.5 miles)
About this Event
Fountains Ways Autumn Pilgrimage - Long Walk (7.5 miles)
Join us for a special 7.5-mile pilgrimage following The Curlew Way through beautiful North Yorkshire countryside between Kirkby Malzeard and Winksley. This guided walk combines stunning Yorkshire landscapes, rich heritage, wildlife, and moments of reflection, creating an experience that nourishes both body and soul.
Starting in the beautiful early 20th Century St Cuthbert and St Oswald's Church, Winksley, pilgrims will pass through rolling farmland in lower Nidderdale, visiting Laverton, Kirkby Malzeard and Galphay, before returning to Winksley for a cream tea. There will be opportunities for pausing, reflection, and discovering something of the stories of those who have worshipped here before us.
The route also celebrates one of the area's most treasured birds, the curlew, whose haunting call is the soundtrack of these upland landscapes. As you walk, you'll learn about the curlew's connection to the Yorkshire Dales and the importance of protecting this iconic species for future generations. Following the return to Winksley, Matt 'the Curlew Man' Trevelyan will speak about curlew conservation.
Whether you come for the spiritual journey, the chance to connect with nature, the fascinating local history, or simply the joy of walking with others, the Fountains Ways Autumn Pilgrimage offers a memorable day in one of Yorkshire's most beautiful settings.
Opportunities available to support curlew conservation, Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust, and Fountains Ways - Ancient Paths for Modern Pilgrims. Donations Welcome.
