Foundations and Futures AAPI Multimedia Textbook Briefing
About this Event
Presented in partnership with Assemblymember Mike Fong, the California Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Legislative Caucus, the California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs (CAPIAA), and the UCLA Asian American Studies Center.
The briefing will feature a presentation by Textbook Project Co-Director and Co-Editor, UCLA Professor Karen Umemoto. Written by more than 100 leading scholars, journalists, organizers, and community historians, the textbook highlights the histories, experiences, and contributions of more than 20 Asian American and Pacific Islander communities across the United States, its territories, and the Pacific.
With an extensive collection of videos, photographs, audio clips, poems, interviews, and lesson plans, offers free educational resources for high school and college learners, educators, and community members. The multimedia textbook encourages critical thinking, fosters empathy, and helps deepen understanding of AAPI histories and contemporary issues.
