Art isn't limited to traditional tools and classic techniques—sometimes, the best paintbrush is an object sitting right in your toy box or kitchen drawer!
Join us at the museum for our Found Object Painting Workshop, facilitated by Museum Attendant Erin Caskey. Designed to inspire young minds and curious creators, this interactive program encourages participants to look at everyday items through an artistic, creative lens.
During this two-hour session, Erin will lead participants through a series of playful experiments in texture painting using non-traditional materials. Instead of standard brushes, attendees will use:
- Toy Cars: Roll paint-covered tires across the canvas to make dynamic tracks and bold lines.
- Doilies & Fabrics: Press lace and textures into paint to generate intricate patterns and delicate shapes.
- Marbles: Roll paint-dipped marbles across paper to create whimsical, unpredictable swirls.
- ...and various other household and found items!
Creativity knows no bounds, and inspiration can come from anywhere. Participants will walk away not only with their own custom canvas masterpiece, but also with a newfound appreciation for the hidden artistic potential in the world around them.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is open to visitors of all ages, though activities are specially tailored to captivate children and young artists. Whether you're a seasoned young painter or trying art for the first time, all skill levels are welcome.
What to Bring:
All painting materials, canvases, and found objects will be provided by the museum. Painting can get a little messy, so we recommend wearing clothes you don't mind getting a splash of paint on!
Come roll, stamp, and create with us on August 22 or September 19! Admission is free, but please register in advance as space may be limited.
