About this Event

Community Services Industry Forum: Preventing online gambling harm in young Tasmanians.
Join us for a conversation on how we can work together to help prevent online gambling harm in young Tasmanians.

Anglicare Tasmania invites community services professionals, policymakers, and government representatives to a conversation about the growing impact of online gambling on young Tasmanians - and what we can do to address it.

The Alliance for Gambling Reform lived experience advocate, Tasmanian Mark Kempster, and Chief Advocate Tim Costello will open the event with a discussion. Following afternoon tea, they will join a panel of community services leaders to explore practical, policy and community-level responses.

This event is free and will provide afternoon tea. To assist with catering and seating arrangements please make sure to register you and any of your colleagues using eventbrite.

Arrival time: The conversation will start at 1.30pm. Please aim to arrive and be seated before this time.

Meet the Speakers

Mark Kempster

Mark Kempster is a Tasmanian gambling reform advocate with lived experience. He placed his first bet at 15, drawn in by a culture where betting felt normal within the sport he loved. By his early thirties, gambling had cost him $100,000 and nearly his relationship with his family.

Today, Mark speaks openly about how gambling reshaped his personality, the moment everything collapsed, and the steps he took to rebuild his life. His advocacy focuses on prevention, early intervention and helping families understand how quickly online gambling can escalate for young people.

Rev Tim Costello

Tim is one of Australia's most respected community leaders and a sought after voice on justice issues, leadership and ethics.

For 13 years until October 2016, Tim was Chief Executive of World Vision Australia (WVA). In his current role as the Alliance for Gambling Reforms Chief Advocate, Tim is putting awareness of gambling harm on the national agenda.
