About this Event
Join RISE artist Joanna Pinkiewicz for an immersion into the principles of colours.
Working with watercolour, participants will explore the fundamentals of colour theory, moving beyond basic pigments to develop a deeper understanding of the colour wheel, tone, and temperature. Through guided mixing exercises, you’ll learn how to create tints, shades, and nuanced tones essential for capturing realism in both landscapes and complex skin tones.
Designed to spark curiosity and confidence, this workshop encourages experimentation, observation, and thoughtful colour choices. Whether you are new to painting or looking to strengthen your foundational skills, this session offers a supportive and inspiring space for creative exploration and connection.
Suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike, this workshop is an opportunity to slow down, look closely, and deepen your understanding of colour through practice.

About the artist
Joanna Pinkiewicz is a Polish-born artist who migrated to Tasmania in 1993 at the age of 17. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1996 and returned in 2025 to undertake an Honours project at the University of Tasmania. Her practice explores the relationship between spirituality and materiality. Engaging in iterative processes, embodied responses and material exploration, she works in watercolour, oil paint and installation. Based in her Lulworth studio (Northern Tasmania), Joanna draws inspiration from the Pipers River Estuary and her Hindu spiritual practice. In Tasmania Joanna is represented by Madeline Gordon Gallery. www.joannapinkiewicz.com/profile
