Forever 7: Pond Dipping

Join us as part of Forever 7: Archie’s Nature Trail for a relaxed, drop-in pond dipping session celebrating Archie’s love of the outdoors. Children can explore nature up close using nets, bug pots and magnifiers as we search for the small creatures that call the Parish Ponds home. We’ll help identify what we find and share simple facts about these fascinating creatures. This hands-on activity is designed to spark curiosity and encourage a connection with nature.

Suitable for all ages, no need to book, just pop by and take part at your own pace.

Event length: Drop in anytime from 12:30pm - 15:00pm

Event cost: Free to all, drop in session, no need to book

Additional Notes:

• Photography will be taking place, please let the event lead know if you do not wish to be in any photos.

Toilet facilities are not available. Please wear sturdy footwear as some of the paths can be uneven in places.

Archie York (7) was tragically killed in the Benwell explosion, October 2024, caused by illegal activity in the property below the family home.

The family are keen to create a Nature Trail at the Parish Ponds in Archie’s memory, in recognition of his love of the outdoors, nature and spending happy times there. They envisage that this Trail, including bespoke artwork on 7 posts along the way, will be engaging for children, like Archie, but also that it will be something for all ages to enjoy. His family and former classmates are involved in the Project, with local artist Steve Pardue depicting on the posts what Archie might have chosen himself from his observations of the natural world. It is hoped that Forever 7: Archie’s Nature Trail will encourage more families to enjoy the area, in the same way that Archie York used to, and his family still do.

The Event will include the opening of the Nature Trail and the opportunity to enjoy it. There will also be some additional attractions for everyone, such as pond dipping, a bug hunt, face painting, an ice-cream van and refreshments from the Cafe Cup.
