The evening moves from Beethoven’s dramatic Creatures of Prometheus Overture to Debussy’s shimmering Fêtes from Nocturnes, performed by guest pianists Erika Tazawa and Eric Jenkins. They then take center stage for Saint-Saëns’ delightful Carnival of the Animals, a musical menagerie that brings everything from lions and elephants to swans and kangaroos to life through sound. The program concludes with Mozart’s majestic Symphony No. 41, Jupiter.
This concert also marks Dearborn Symphony’s first partnership with the Detroit Zoo, bringing the natural world into the concert experience. Before the performance, Zoo ambassadors will be in the lobby with family activities, information about the animals represented in Carnival of the Animals, and opportunities to learn more about conservation. Guests can also enter for a chance to win Detroit Zoo tickets.
It’s an evening designed to spark curiosity, delight, and perhaps a new appreciation for the many ways music can connect us to the world around us.
