Please arrive at the trailhead between 3:45PM and 4PM. We will begin our walk promptly at 4PM.
Where: We’ll meet at the Government Peak Recreation Area parking lot
About the class and what to expect: Join Ute Olsson for a 1-hour walk in the woods. Learn how to identify plants correctly, tell them apart from look-a-likes, identify where and when they grow, and discuss foraging etiquette. We’ll be walking/hiking for about 1 hour.
This bi-weekly walk repeats throughout the growing season at Government Peak Recreation Area.
About the instructor: Ute Riesenkönig Olsson received a Master of Forestry from Duke University and a Master of Science in Ecological Studies from Colorado State University. She taught natural history to all ages at the Eagle River Nature Center for two decades before her retirement. Ute’s passionate about ethnobotany - how humans have traditionally used plants in Alaska. You can follow her on Instagram at Borealkraut.
Group size: Maximum class size 10 learners
Please note that we will only collect a few samples during this course. We are not harvesting as a group during these classes.
