Led by Tanya Doty.A one-day workshop that will give you a foundation to go and weave your heart out wherever you wander.
We'll explore weaving techniques and look at a couple of different ways to put a structure together using natural fibres from my garden. No specialist tools or materials required, all you need is the know-how and you're away and laughing.
Work in a cooperative nurturing environment with like-minded folk. This one-day workshop is perfect for beginners or those with some experience. Everyone will be encouraged to explore with materials and techniques, and celebrate the individuality of our creations, acknowledging the ongoing learning that comes with creating.
Tanya Doty is a basketmaker and fibre artist based in Upper Moutere, working with willow, rattan and foraged fibres. She started learning from Peter Greer in Golden Bay in 2008 and now co-tutors willow workshops with him regularly from his workshop in Onekaka.
Tanya has had tuition from notable UK Basketmaker Eddie Glew and has been mentored by Mike Lillian (Kakanui NZ) since 2023.
She has been curating and running successful basket making and stone wrapping workshops since 2017 through New Zealand.
Tanya's passion is using sustainable materials to make useful items that add to our connection to Papatuanuku, helping to keep basketry skills alive in the hands of the people, and aiding the body brain connection.
Tanya's work is available galleries throughout Aotearoa.
