Led by Sue Heydon.Participants will be initiated into the joys of papermaking using only recovered recycled materials that don’t cost anything, adding just water, and using paper making equipment to create beautiful paper.
Materials such as discarded paper, old paper bags, brown (manilla) paper, tissue, disintegrating old books and natural materials such as feathers, dried skeletonised leaves, and disintegrating plant fibres will be combined to make deliciously textured paper, suitable for craft projects, such as collage, as a textured painting surface, papier mache forms, to add texture to hand made greeting cards, for mobiles, and for dyeing.
Come dressed for a messy watery/pulpy activity and be prepared to be spontaneous!
Sue Heydon is a Nelson-based installation artist whose work is often informed by historical events and is increasingly concerned with bringing ecological issues into the light and to evoke a response from viewers.
Sue delights in hunting down wild plant materials, hand dug whenua/wild clay, and beautiful washed-up beach treasures such as seaweed and plant fibres to create environments to convey the essential beauty of materials which are often considered mundane.
Sue has shown work at Museums and Galleries in Aotearoa and have work in collections in the Motu. An installation, 'George's War' relating to her father’s time as a World War II Prisoner of War, is currently showing at Waiouru Army Museum.
