A joint event organized by the Cziffra Festival and the Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Centre Brussels.
At the end of March, Brussels will host a special concert presented jointly by the Liszt Institute and the Cziffra Festival. As part of the “Focus on Youth” series showcasing outstanding young talents, pianist Mónika Ruth Vida will take the stage. Her performance is not merely a concert, but a testament to the continuity of classical music and the brilliance of the emerging generation.
A recipient of the Talent Award of the Cziffra Festival, Mónika Ruth Vida represents the virtuosity and emotional depth characteristic of the Hungarian piano school, paying tribute to György Cziffra, one of the most influential musical figures of the 20th century.
The programme features some of the most compelling and technically demanding masterpieces of the piano repertoire, closely linked to the tradition embodied by Cziffra. The evening opens with Rachmaninoff’s monumental Sonata in its refined second version, filled with late-Romantic drama and melancholy. A rich selection from Liszt’s oeuvre follows: the lyrical and beloved Liebestraum No. 3, the almost superhuman technical challenges of Mazeppa, Schubert’s Ständchen in Liszt’s transcription, and the shimmering Les Jeux d’eaux à la Villa d’Este. The concert concludes with the fiery Spanish Rhapsody, crowned by Liszt’s dazzling variations on Spanish folk themes.
